Since you are still fresh and rested, we advise you to start your visit to the capital from Vatican City. You should arrive early in the morning when the flow of visitors is still limited.
Vatican City
Visit immediately the Basilica of San Pietro, the largest, richest and most spectacular Italian church. No photograph and no story of those who have been there can make the emotional impact that the vastness of the building arouses, the magnificence of the decorations and works of art it contains. We remind you to wear proper clothes if you don’t want to see yourself denied access to the basilica. No miniskirts then, nor shorts, nor bare shoulders.
- After the visit, stop for a while in Piazza San Pietro for the usual photographs and enjoy the magnificence of what is one of the largest public spaces in the world.
Then head to the Vatican Museums, where you can live an unforgettable experience. We advise you to buy tickets online to avoid queues at the entrance. The museum (equipped for the disabled) is immense and it would take years to see it all, therefore, for a panoramic visit we recommend going to the Pinacoteca, the Pio-Clementino Museum, the Gallery of Geographical Maps, in the Raphael Rooms and of course in the Unmissable Sistine Chapel with the priceless frescoes by Michelangelo meet at least two hours in the museum. For the Family and Kids Rome Tour, this is important.
Sant’ Angelo Castel
Leaving the museum, along Via Della Conciliazione you will arrive at Castel Sant’Angelo, the papal fortress built in the Middle Ages on the remains of the emperor Hadrian’s mausoleum. (2nd century AD). Do not leave the fortress without a stop on the Terrazzadell’Angelo, where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the city. If you buy the ticket online you will skip the line.
After the visit, take a well-deserved break to eat and regain your strength. Please note that the area around the Vatican is full of pizzerias and trattorias that do not have the problem of serving poor food at an excessive price.
Piazza Navona And Campo Dei Fiori
Continue your itinerary to visit Rome in 3 days crossing the Sant’ Angelo bridge and take a walk through the alleys and squares that still maintain an authentic Roman character. Head to Piazza Navona, the quintessence of Roman squares. Let yourself be charmed by the wonderful Baroque palaces and exuberant fountains (including that of the Four Rivers by Bernini). The square is characterized by a large crowd of tourists, portraitists and street artists who fill it every hour of the day and night.
If you want to take a break you can go to the nearby Piazza Sant’Eustachio and enter the homonymous Café: the place is nothing special but serves the best espresso in town.
Then return to Piazza Navona and exit the square to the south. Cross Corso Vittorio Emanuele and follow Via deiBallauri to Campo Dei Fiori with the famous statue of Giordano Bruno, a heretic monk condemned to the stake in the period of the Counter-Reformation. The square is one of the nerve centers of Roman life: crowded during the day market, a place to go for a drink in the evening. End the evening of your itinerary to visit Rome in three days by dining in the surroundings of this area.
